As usual, we expect Ravenswood Manor to be a busy place on Halloween! And with the holiday happening on a Friday with a favorable forecast, there’s a good chance we’ll have an influx of families from near and far visiting our festive neighborhood tomorrow. As an organization whose objective is to promote the safety of our community, here are some important reminders to help keep everyone safe:
- Traffic Safety – Please take extra precautions if you need to drive through the neighborhood during peak trick-or-treating hours. Families with young children tend to come out during daylight and may be out as early as 4:30 while older children may be out past 10pm. Peak trick-or-treating hours in the past have been between 5 and 9pm. Avoid parking in areas that limit the flow of traffic, especially along Wilson and Manor.
- Pedestrian Safety – If you are exploring the neighborhood on foot, stick to sidewalks and always cross the street at designated cross-walks. Never walk in the street. Keep a close eye on young children and consider adding visibility aides like lights, glow sticks, or reflective strips to costumes. Designate a meet-up spot in case anyone gets lost, and make sure children know important phone numbers or have them available in writing.
- ICE Activity – With increased ICE activity across the city, please familiarize yourself with city resources such as the Know your Rights & Resource Guide. For more information, visit the 33rd Ward and/or 40th ward immigrant rights pages.
Thank you for your vigilance and generosity as we all work to make Halloween a fun, safe, and welcoming holiday in Ravenswood Manor. Happy Halloween!
